Aware Parenting: How to teach a child to live in the present moment?

Today I came to the restaurant later than my son and my friend. I saw them sitting on the table and drawing on the colorful book. There were two more books to draw. Then, we started to eat.. after while a child asked my friend to tell him a story about a wolf. Here I couldn't keep silent and said to my friend "We came here to explore this place. Have you even noticed these beautiful stone columns and flowers behind them?" Why do we need to be busy from seeing what we see, here what we here, feel what we feel, smell what we smell...? What are we afraid of? Why do we need to put music on in the car and listen to somebody's words coming with loud sounds of electronic music? Why can't we enjoy just seeing snow fall, feeling our bodies' signs, and explore present moment... may be something interesting could be born in silence like our thoughts, fears, dreams, or ideas ...

After the restaurant we came home and instead of reading a book before a nap I and my son played a game to develop sensory skills to explore the reality and live at the present moment. I asked my son the following questions and answered them with him:
1. Let's turn around and see what we see - black chair, flowers, blue book, green book, wow!
2. Let's here sound around us - mau, mau.
- What do you hear?  I asked.
! Cat.
Yes, but what sounds do you hear? mau, mau. It's important to differ sounds from our logical interpretation of them. Mau, mau - are the sounds; while the cat is logical interpretation.
3. Let's touch something. It's a soft blanket. It's a solid candle.
4. Let's smell a doll. Let's small a candle....

Life is more diverse if we develop our all representational systems to describe the reality: auditory (sounds), visual (pictures), kinesthetic (feelings), auditory digital (internal dialog) and others like taste and smell.

Explore your ways to deal with reality... are you a seeing person, a hearing person, or maybe someone else? What system does dominate? Practice the game from this article and enjoy new opportunities raising in your life!
